The following customer wanted us to design their new home in a modern but contemporary décor. This project enabled us to design the interior from the planning stage to the finished article. A lot of the materials used were shipped to the area as not accessible in our local facility.

This 4 bedroom family house consists of the following: 4 x double bedrooms with ensuite, open plan living room, open plan dining room, open plan kitchen, master living room, conservatory, utility room, 2 x WC rooms, 4 x storage cupboards.

The client lived previously in a country estate home, on the outskirts of Lossiemouth and wanted to build a modern family home within the existing grounds. Interior Design by Garri George was responsible in designing the interiors and fitting's. This included the sourcing and supplying of all goods and materials. The client wanted to capture the open space that surrounds the property as well as have a home that was modern but had a contemporary edge. This home also needed a masculine edge as it supports a family of four boys.

Kitchen: When designing the kitchen we looked at the overall projection layout of the room and agreed on the layout in the picture. With this design it was very important for the kitchen to blend in with its
surroundings, we used the following materials in the kitchen. Red gloss modern doors, mixed with a contemporary oak slab doors to give character and contemporary styling, also using quartz worktops. The red gloss door with the quartz worktops helps the increase light which gives a illusion of space and style.

Flooring: Porcelain 600mm x 600mm tiles throughout the entire house to give a reflective effect that emphasised space. The wood work that dominates this property is American oak, so the flooring was important in order to bring out the warmth in the wood.

Wet Rooms: Floor tiles were specified in chocolate porcelain.

Soft furnishings: This project was designed for a family of 4 boys and 1 lady so the interior needed to be masculine with a soft touch of colour. Reference the furniture we selected a red leather corner suite to compliment the red gloss in the kitchen, dining table and oak coffee table to compliment the skirting’s, doors and wooden panelling. One of the rooms you will see on the pictures is very traditional which features two grand style sofas, black Scandinavian style chandelier, ceiling rose and old traditional cornicing. Also we selected the fabric for curtains and blinds to compliment colour scheme. For example the curtains are based on a stripe which incorporates brown, gold and cream which is in keeping with the over all style. All other items like plants, cushions etc were also selected in this manor.

Lighting: We wanted the property to be a completely different environment at night. Using the technology that was to hand we used a commercial style of concealed lighting strips, hidden by a frame that was lowered around the shape of the open plan family living room. This achieved a spectacular result when activated at night. Also spot lights throughout the home to give as much light when darkness falls. We also upgraded the lighting in the kitchen installing plinth lights on selected areas, under wall unit lights with a frosted glass fascias.

Kitchen: Using walnut slab door we totally transformed this space by designing the kitchen to look like it was part of their free standing furniture. The usage of flat surface's and square shapes we created a modern interior. Laminate worktops in keeping with the colour of the new flooring, kitchen door colour in keeping with the existing wood work and the design of the cooking area was so the client could interact with guests when preparing food. Chrome taps, chrome handles all help in the detail to pull off this unique look.
